Bastimento’s structure was inspired by the net dryers used by fishermen in Galician towns which historically have been referred to as the Atlantic facade. A spatial grid of concrete pillars organises Bastimento’s programme in a flexible manner. At the same time, its porous structure allows the market to be integrated into the pedestrian space, returning to the original ‘farmers markets’ which served as the meeting point for locals.
